Installing Waterguard in Fayetteville, NC
Challenge
Kurt, of Fayetteville, NC, has a beautiful home, but was beginning to stumble upon a few different problems in his basement. Though Kurt loved his basement space, he had noticed that every time it rained, water came in at the base between the slab and the wall. Kurt wanted to avoid major issues, and was afraid that if he didn’t give this attention soon, he would soon be pumping water out in the case of a major storm. He gave us a call at Southeast Foundation and Crawl Space Repair and requested an inspection.
Southeast Foundation & Crawl Space Repair inspector R.J. Bailey met with Kurt to go over his water leakage problem in his basement. That would continue to be a problem for the homeowner if not remedied, and would most likely only get worse. R.J. explained to Kurt that basement leaking and flooding is very common. After a basement is constructed, backfill (loose dirt) is used to fill in around the foundation. Because it’s less dense then unturned soil, it tends to settle, and even shrinks away from a foundation during droughts. This allows rain to flow down towards the basement even easier. He also explained that creating a way for water to drain from a basement is imperative, especially considering water can enter a basement through wall cracks, pipe penetrations, flooding window wells, condensation, and other sources.
After extensive conversation with the homeowner, R.J. learned that an area above the basement had begun to sag and may need an additional support system. After the consultation with R.J., Kurt was convinced, and asked that Southeast Foundation and Crawl Space Repair come and address his home with solutions.
Solution
Southeast Foundation and Crawl Space Repair installed the Waterguard Basement Waterproofing System that would solve the basement leaking issues. Waterguard is a uniquely engineered product that is an efficient, long-lasting interior perimeter basement waterproofing system. Waterguard’s flange spacers give a basement wall a neat finished look, and keep out dirt and debris that might otherwise cause clogging.
We also installed a SuperSump pump. Once groundwater that enters the basement is channeled around the perimeter of the basement, you must have a way to get rid of it. This is where the SuperSump comes in. Next, they installed a Discharge Line and Lawnscape Outlet. This outlet from the basement allows water to flow out and away from the proximity of the home where flooding can occur.
After the basement drainage system was installed, we added 3 Smart Jack XL’s, 7.5 feet tall from floor to ceiling, near the room’s center with steel beams for joist support. This would provide the support needed to eliminate sinking, and returned the floor to its original, level state.
Kurt was very pleased that his basement now had a proper drainage system, and he was thankful for Southeast Foundation & Crawl Space Repair's diligence in the installation of both the drainage system as well as the floor support, a great complement of solutions for his home.
