Challenge

Mr. and Mrs. J. bought their home about a year ago. After settling in and making minor changes to their home they noticed mold growing in their crawl space. After looking online for a while and reading different remedies that people tried, the J.s came across Southeast Foundation & Crawl Space Repair’s website which outlined some good suggestions and solutions.

Solution

Southeast Foundation & Crawl Space Repair noted during their inspection that there was traces of mold growing under the home due to high humidity. Southeast Foundation & Crawl Space Repair remedied the issue by installing a 20 mil CleanSpace encapsulation liner. A SmartSump sump pump was installed with a SaniDry dehumidifier to reduce moisture levels in the crawl space.

The home was isolated from the earth, and water intrusion and moisture issues were brought under control. The reduced relative humidity inside the crawl space eliminated the conditions that support mold growth. Energy savings alone will pay for the investment.

The old plastic barrier did nothing to help reduce the humidity and moisture levels in the crawl space contributing to mold growth.

Moisture in the Crawl Space from an ineffective barrier on the dirt floor and the vents bringing in moist air - all contribute to the high humidity levels in the crawl space.

Southeast Foundation & Crawl Space Repair in stalled the durable CleanSpace Vapor barrier and some SilverGLO insulation panels to encapsulate the crawl space and separate the home from the moist earth.

By closing the vents and installing a SaniDry dehumidifier, the homeowners can live with a peace of mind knowing that their crawl space will be dry, stay dry and not contribute to mold growth.
